In daily practice, more or less the only relevant information that we send to the laboratory is the impression. Unfortunately, impressions are often the weakest points in the chain of producing exact fitting restorations. There are two approaches in modern dentistry. The conventional way of working starts with conventional impression followed by the conventional way of denture fabrication. Computer aided way begins with digital intra-oral or extra-oral impression and after that, we are in a virtual world. No matter which one we prefer - the conventional or virtual method the only connection is impression. Unfortunately, independent studies show that around 80% of impressions for fixed dentures aren’t good enough or simply ‘not for use’.
Whenever we are taking about an impression we

Upper canine teeth are the second most commonly impacted permanent teeth. They take an essential role for a functional and esthetic dentition fit. Impaction of lower canines is a relatively rare anomaly, but complications resulting from it are extremely severe.
The aim of the present lecture is to outline the application of certain indicators over the standard OPT, using data from clinical examination and dental and chronological age of the patient. The findings derived from the application of these criteria and the protocols for early diagnosis assist clinicians in choosing adequate preventive or treatment protocol. Following the steps of the protocol for the particular age of the patient, the dental clinician could determine the presence of disturbances in the eruption path and de

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is one of the most common human bacterial infections. H. pylori has been closely linked to chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric cancer, and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. Recent data suggest a possible correlation of this microorganism with other conditions such as anemia, altered serum levels of lipoproteins and coronary atherosclerosis. Although H. pylori is present in about half of the world’s population, the rout of its transmission is not clearly defined. The most likely routes of transmission are oral-oral and fecal-oral. Samples of these microorganisms found in soil, animals and humans indicate the role of the extragastric routs in their transmission. As H. pylori is found in saliva and dental plaque, it could be transmitted by th

Anaftin® is a range of medical devices for treatment of minor mouth lesions. The products from Anaftin® range contain polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and hyaluronic acid which form a protective film that adheres to the oral cavity, ensuring a mechanical barrier to the affected areas. Thus relieving the pain caused by the exposed nerve endings. The hyaluronic acid and Aloe vera in the formulation support the natural healing of the damaged tissues.
Anaftin® helps in the management of pain caused by small lesions in the mouth, such as those due to aphthous stomatitis, aphthous ulcers, as well as decubital lesions from braces and ill-fitting dentures. It is also indicated for diffuse aphthous u

Nowadays our patients are more and more aware of the advantages presented by the ceramic prosthetic restorations. Their requirements toward the practitioner are growing to such an extend that “Esthetic dentistry” has become a separated speciality.
The esthetic outcome of our restorations are not simply due to the advantages given by new technologies. It is a result of the application of completely new clinical approaches and protocols. The “Biomimetic” concept presented by Pascal Magne and Urs Belser allows us to fabricate prosthetic reconstructions with mechanical properties identical to those of the natural tissues. The concept is based upon several fundamental principles such as: tissue economy, observation and faithful reproduction of the nature, adhesive protocol and utiliz

Many factors may influence survival in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity, among which the most significant is metastasis to the lymph nodes. Advanced tumor stages with adverse histological features further reduce the chances of survival.
We analyzed the prognostic value of the available clinical and histological parameters to predict subclinical lymph node metastases and the chances of survival. We analyzed prognostic value of available clinical and histological parameters to predict subclinical nodal metastases and survival of patients. For that purpose we used a modification of Jakobsson’s (9) grading system proposed by Richard W. Nason (12) and applied it to a series of patients with oral carcinoma. It was found correlation between histological parameters and

Patients, undergoing radiotherapy, as primary, adjuvant or complex treatment of head and neck cancer are prone to a number of dental complications. Radiatiotherapy is a technique that uses ionizing radiation with a therapeutic effect due to the semi-selective damage to genetic material of cancer cells in a direct way or through the production of free radicals, leading to cell death. The adverse effects of radiotherapy appear to damage normal cells, especially those that divide quickly and are less prone to regeneration. In the oral cavity that can be cells of the oral mucosa, underlying soft tissues, teeth, periosteum, bone cells, glands and blood vessels. Changes lead to specific radiation syndromes. These include xerostomia and dysgeusia occurring of damage to the salivary glands, or

The presentation contains some guidelines on endodontic treatment of children’s permanent teeth. The author highlights the necessity of using anesthesia in treatment of vital teeth and proper isolation of operative field. The advantages of using magnifying devices in this kind of treatment are also emphasized.
The author accentuates the specific management in treatment of permanent teeth with incomplete root development. The attention of dental practitioners is set on saving of pulp’s vitality, when it is possible. The author discusses different strategies to achieve this aim – indirect and direct pulp capping, partial and total pulpotomy and differentiate these strategies from the cases when the development of the root is complete.
The author discusses different clinical cases a

The implementation of the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in
dentistry has essentially improved the diagnosis and therapy especially in endodontics. CBCT can identify the presence and location of periapical lesions and root resorptions more accurately then standard periapical radiographs.
This additional information allows a more accurate diagnosis and treatment planning with a more specific prognosis for the patient.
In this interactive presentation the audience can choose their treatment plans before and after CBCT and the results will be presented immediately.
The aim of this presentation is to highlight the advantages of the use of CBCT in diagnosis and therapy of endodontic pathologies.
10:00 - 11:00
Over the past decades the use of the surgical microscope has become a routine procedure for endodontic specialists.
Furthermore ultrasonic tips, microinstruments as well as biocompatible root-end filling materials have significantly improved the technical approach. Endodontic surgery has evolved into endodontic microsurgery, providing high success rates. However, from a clinical point of view molar surgery remains a challenge. Surgery in molars is associated with technical difficulties such as the close proximity of the apices or pathologic process to the mandibular canal or sinus maxillaris, difficult access to the root tips as a result of the posterior location and thickness of the buccal cortical bone plate.
The introduction of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and threedimensi

The modern pharmaceutical industry produces a variety of drugs to control diseases previously considered incurable. Besides their healing features, the drugs also have some side effects that lead to injuries in the jaw. The lecture discusses the causes of drug-induced osteonecrosis of the jaw, pathogenesis of the disease, clinical signs and preventive measures in patients undergoing treatment with suspicious drugs, likewise the treatment of already affected patients.

The ultimate goal of periodontal therapy is to keep functionality and aesthetic of patient’s teeth through the prevention of tooth loss. Implants are widely used, but periodontal regeneration can offer an option in the treatment planning if correclty applied.
Periodontal regeneration aims at the recover of the lost periodontal tissue, allowing its regeneration on the previously diseased root. After a right diagnosis, a proper regenerative technique we can improve the prognosis of periodontally compromised teeth and often revert them to full health and function. The lecture will focus on principles of periodontal regeneration, on factors influencing clinical outcome and it will discuss the new technologies, the new biomaterials and the latest surgical approaches in flap design that hav

Trauma to the permanent dentition is a common event especially in children and adolescents.
Dentoalveolar ankylosis of a tooth after sever dental injury is a serious complication in growing children. The ankylosed root is continuously resorbed and replaced by bone, and an infra-position of the damaged tooth will develop. The normal alveolar development will be disrupted, and prosthetic treatment will be compromised.
Decoronation is a treatment option in this cases that allows preservation of the alveolar ridge and adequate future prosthetic rehabilitation.
