How to prevent the loss of periodontally compromise teeth: the role of periodontal regeneration.
The ultimate goal of periodontal therapy is to keep functionality and aesthetic of patient’s teeth through the prevention of tooth loss. Implants are widely used, but periodontal regeneration can offer an option in the treatment planning if correclty applied.
Periodontal regeneration aims at the recover of the lost periodontal tissue, allowing its regeneration on the previously diseased root. After a right diagnosis, a proper regenerative technique we can improve the prognosis of periodontally compromised teeth and often revert them to full health and function. The lecture will focus on principles of periodontal regeneration, on factors influencing clinical outcome and it will discuss the new technologies, the new biomaterials and the latest surgical approaches in flap design that have greatly helped in overcoming technical difficulties and given the clinicians the opportunity to maximize the results . Clinical suggestions will be described with the aid of clinical videos.
