An adverse drug reaction/ADR/ is any unintended, harmful effect of a drug that occurs at doses used for prophylaxis, diagnosis or treatment in humans and affects 1/10 of the general population. Only 10% of these reactions are due to true hypersensitivity. Hypersensitivity reactions are ADRs caused by active ingredients and/or excipients that manifest clinically with signs and symptoms that differ from the pharmacological effects of the drug. Hypersensitivity reactions are allergic and non-allergic. Allergic reactions, according to their immunological mechanism, are of 4 types: type 1- IgE mediated; type 2 - IgG or IgM mediated cytoly

Summary:
For symptomatic and short-term treatment of pain conditions associated with dental pain, pain after dental procedures, as well as pain after surgical intervention, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are most often used in dental practice(1,2).
Antibiotics can also be prescribed for more severe inflammatory processes. The change in the microbiome, as a result of antibiotic therapy, is one of the reasons for adding a probiotic. Sandoz company presents to Bulgarian market the first probiotic medicine includes probiotic bacteria(2,3,4).

Dental implants are increasingly used to replace missing teeth in all areas of the mouth. Since the macro design of the implants widely varies, the amount of bone removed depends on the shape and volume of implant body it can be assumed that the volume of the removed vital tissue is proportional to the volume of the implant material. Therefore, placing an implant with minimal material volume may have biological advantages both in the short and long term. Also the need for tissue substitute in regenerative procedures may be decreased. The topic will cover the biological perspective in implant dentistry, in

The etiological factors leading to the damage of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity are many and varied. The mucous membrane of the oral cavity is constantly subjected to influences from various factors – mechanical, physical, chemical, thermal, dental abnormalities, trauma, etc. All of them can lead to impairments with different clinical characteristics. Depending on their connection and the presence of concomitant diseases or predisposing factors, the damage to the mucous membrane can be divided into primary (impact of isolate

On examination, the oral cavity and especially the gingivae may exhibit manifestations of underlying systemic disease and conditions which is possible to serve as an indicator of overall health. Skin diseases such as Lichen Planus, Oral Pemphigoid, Pemphigus and Erythema Multiforme are possible to present symptoms on the gingivae. Allergic reactions to dental restorative materials, components of oral hygiene products and foods or additives may occur on the gingivae. There are several fungi species associated with gingival co

Direct resin composite restorations are one of the best options in anterior teeth regarding minimally invasive adhesive dentistry. Following various pre-restorative procedures, these restorations can even be performed without any preparation. Correct indication, efficient isolation, successful adhesion, proper layering technique, detailed polishing procedures, and frequent recalls are the main necessities for long-lasting direct anterior restorations. Additionally, in terms of esthetic and functional dentistry, generating a natural morphology is also needed for dire

Dental esthetics and minimal invasive dentistry have become increasingly important during the last decade when considering diagnosis and treatment planning. Practicing additive dentistry rather than subtractive one in conjunction with applying the concept of adhesive partial restorations allows for a greater preservation of healthy tissue than one for a full ceramic restoration. this approach also allows for proper restoration of both anatomical and functional relations of the offending tooth while maintaining its integrity. The aim of this session is to present the whole clinical workflow starting from case assessment and ending by selection of the appropriate ceme

In our society the percentage of old people is increasing and so the probabilty that our patients have more diseases which have influence on oral surgery. Risk patients are definded as patients with local oder systemic diseases or changes so that an uncomplicated dental surgery is difficult or unimpossible or the success is significantly reduced.
In the presentation examples of different risk patients will be presented:
antiresorptive therapy with bishosphonates
systemic diseases like diabetes mellitus, cancer, allergies, cardiac diseases
patients with hemorrhagic diseases or anticoagulant therapy
patients after radiation or / and ch

The rehabilitation of fully edentulous patients presents a complex challenge in contemporary implant dentistry, demanding a nuanced understanding of patient-specific needs and available treatment modalities. This lecture highlights the diverse array of options available for restoring oral function, aesthetics, and quality of life in fully edentulous patients. The transformative potential of implant-supported overdentures and fixed implant-supported prostheses is explored, highlighting their ability to enhance stability, comfort, and chewing efficiency while preserving bone

With the gradual reduction in the use of dental amalgam in response to the Minamata Convention, dental composites are becoming the primary material for direct restoration of even severely decayed teeth. Dental composites have a limited clinical life, mainly due to secondary caries or fracturing. For this reason, many in vitro studies are performed and reported each year to evaluate the qualities of new, improved materials. This lecture reviews rec

Non-surgical periodontal treatment, also known as Phase I therapy or Intial periodontal therapy is one of the most important steps in the systemical structure of periodontal treatment approach. The philosophy behind this approach gives its potential for success in terms of resolution of periodontal inflammation and healthy periodontal tissues for longer periods. With our increased knowledge in periodontal disease pathogenesis and technological advances in our tools and devices, we have better treatment outcomes with non-surgical treatment alone.

The restoration of teeth or implants in the aesthetic region, commonly referred to as the smile zone, presents a complex challenge that requires a delicate balance between structural integrity and seamless aesthetic blending with neighboring natural teeth within a healthy periodontal environment. This challenge is further compounded when aiming for aesthetic improvements in the dentition.
Recent advancements in concepts, techniques, and materials over the past decade have led to a significant

The thin soft tissues lead to increased marginal bone loss compared to thick soft tissues, at implants. A new prosthetic way of increasing the biotope will be introduced to increase the soft tissue level around teeth and implants.

Biomimetics in dental medicine studies the unique structure of teeth, pulp, periodontium and other dental tissues to understand their natural healing and protective mechanisms. This approach leads to the creation of new biomaterials that mimic the natural characteristics of teeth and guarantee better compatibility and results.
Dental biomimetics uses both 3D printing and nanotechnology to create exact copies of natural structures. These advances enable personalized and effective solutions for patients while reducing tissue impact and facilitating rapid recovery. Biomimetics in dentistr

The impaction of teeth is a process of their permanent retention in the bone after the time for their normal eruption and after completion of root growth. Knowing the eruption times, a focused clinical examination, and radiographic examination in the stages of transition from deciduous to permanent dentition will aid in early diagnosis and early prevention of deviations in tooth eruption. Removing etiological factors and directing tooth eruption will lead to normal development of the alveolar bone and jaws, providing harmonious development of the developing organism and conditions for achieving normal occlusal relationships.
