Salivary gland carcinomas (SGC) comprise merely 3–5% of all head and neck malignancies, however they are the most diverse with at least 24 different types recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). Between 72-85% of salivary gland tumors arise in parotid gland where 10-24% are malignant, in submandibular gland incidence of malignancy is twice higher and for minor salivary glands incidence of malignancy rise up to 64%.
