Salivary gland carcinomas (SGC) comprise merely 3–5% of all head and neck malignancies, however they are the most diverse with at least 24 different types recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). Between 72-85% of salivary gland tumors arise in parotid gland where 10-24% are malignant, in submandibular gland incidence of malignancy is twice higher and for minor salivary glands incidence of malignancy rise up to 64%. The management of such unpredictable malignancy, and the biological significance through regional anatomical peculiarity and collision with the facial nerve, emphasize the challenge of this surgical entity. Considerable attention have been paid to the histological varieties of the salivary gland epithelial malignancy, making this site of head and neck cancer to be d

In the age of new technologies and information flow, we meet with increasingly higher requirements by our patients. Fade the boundaries between perception of patient and client. Allergy is a disease with great social significance. Problems that brings with it affect individuals’ general and oral health, mental state and ability for free communication. Allergic diseases have rich etiology and clinical features – practically any environmental factor may lead to adverse side reactions with local or general manifestations and varying severity degree. Most interesting for us are orofacial symptoms, represented by contact dermatitis and stomatitis, cheilitis, angioedema, lichenoid lesions, aphthae, erythema, etc. That’s why we review allergic diseases that most frequently give orofacial manifestations and are relevant to dental practice – these are the so-called “complex allergic diseases” – drug, food and insect allergy. This lecture will focus on e
Implant supported restorations can be attached to implants with screws or can be cemented to abutments which are secured to implants . The purpose of the presentation is to  compare  the long-term outcome and complications of cemented versus screw-retained implant restorations in partially edentulous patients. Clinical and   laboratory  studies will show the difference between the two  common type of restoration . Advantages, disadvantages . potential solutions and clinical tips will be emphasized in order to achieve a long term implant-supported restorations .

Maxillofacial area has a complex anatomy, richly vascularised and innervated. The face, oral cavity and upper neck diseases are diverse as clinical picture, course of the disease and treatment approaches. In this regard, facial pains take a major part. The differential diagnosis in the nature of the pain is the key to accurate diagnose and adequate treatment afterwards. That is why, pain is a main disease symptom. From ancient times until now the study of pain has intrigued and continues to intrigue the medical community.   Propulsion in the development of medicine and especially of the surgery is the launch of the common anaesthesia. From the middle of 19th century, after it has been introduced together with the aseptic and antiseptics, the contemporary and scientific development of
Fluoride has an unique role in the prevention and control of dental caries. Its significance for the teeth health is known since  the end of nineteenth century. Researches from twentieth century clearly show the correlation between fluoride intake and reduction of dental caries. These studies serve as a base for development and implementation of various methods for its endogenous and topical application. Fluoride has a prominent part in oral health promotion. It is proved that the use of fluorides through different methods and means is one of the main factors, worldwide, leading to reduction of dental caries. In recent decades, epidemiological researches indicate an increase in dental fluorosis, both in areas with fluoridated water and non-fluoridated water, thus causing stormy debates on

Tooth or implant – where is the limit? The panel will discuss the development of the modern Periodontology. How we could make correct decision about tooth saving, when and what kind of techniques for periodontal regeneration we know. When we don’t have other choice we have to decide to place implant or fixed partial denture/bridge/. What are the indications for implant placement, when is the best moment for that and what complications we can expect? The most of colleagues believe that the implants are so reliable - is that true, or is much better to keep the teeth as much as we can? Looking through the prism of specialists in Oral surgery, Periodontology and Prosthetics we are going to discuss the all positive and negative sides of periodontal and implant treatment. Sing

The report studies the legal framework related to the so-called ‘medical errors’ as a very interesting, diverse and distinct matter, which is approached country-specific not only in the EU, but world-wide.   The country-specific approach is exemplified, among others, by regulating the legal definition or lack of such, application, scope of responsibility, delimiting measures as well as compensations.  Focus is put on risk management and total quality control as a ‘process of conscious and continuous struggle of the whole staff to reach zero defectiveness in all aspects of the organization’s. Analogy is made between the Japanese notion of “kaizen” and the mistakes and the misfortunate events in surgical practice, found during EAMA auditing visits. It is indicated that misfort

It is therefore important to present alternative methods of antibacterial therapy. The contemporary dental medicine sets high standards for achieving complete rehabilitation of the affected tooth and periodontal structures, always including the reconstruction of the morphology of the mucogingival area. In the recent yeas new surgical approaches were presented, aiming the achievement of complete tissue preservation, thus providing better conditions for proper healing in the critical initial phase of the healing process. The goal of the current lecture is to present, with a selection of clinical cases, the contemporary approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of different muco-gingival problems. Alternative possibilities for application of the approaches of the plastic periodontal surgery will be presented for the attainment of predictive functional and aesthetic r
Introduction: Healthcare associated infections (HAI) for centuries are a problem for medical and dental practice. They underwent theoretical and terminological development, but the morbidity of them is not reduced. Due to the increased resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics and disinfectants the control of infections remains a challenge for specialists in dental practices. Aim: To present to dental professionals contemporary aspects of the epidemic process by HAI in dental practice. Goal: To present to dental professionals contemporary aspects of the epidemic process in HAI in dental practice. To summarize some new trends in the prevention of risk infections by dental professionals. Materials and Methods: Materials have been taken for control of disinfection of the environmen

Lecture with practical demonstration The root canal system is colonized by dozens of pathogenic microorganisms that attack the dentin surface and form a bacterial biofilm. Working on teeth with mechanical tools contributes to the reduction of pathogenic microorganisms in the endodontic space spreading at the same time a layer that is a precondition for blocking infection and for its extrusion in the periodontal complex. Enterococcus faecalis has different mechanisms for colonization and adhesion on the dentin surface as well as for defence against the host’s immune response. Irrigation solutions, with their biophysical and biomechanical properties, activated by ultrasound, lasers, negative pressure, photodynamic disinfection, etc., are a basic and mandatory stage in modern endodontic
Hotel Bulgaria, Compass Hotel APPLICATION OF SCHUSSLERSALTS OF GERMAN HOMEOPATHIC UNION (DHU) IN GENERAL DENTAL PRACTICE In the end of 19th century German doctor Wilhelm Henrich Schussler (1821-1898) discovered 12 vital mineral salts for the treatment of different diseases. In 1874 he published his work “Abbreviated therapy”, which is a short system of biochemical treatment with 12 tissue salts on cellular level. Dr. Schussler’s contribution to science is the discovery of the fact that the minerals’ balance, intracellular and extracellular, is definitive for the normal functioning of the human body. Dr. Schussler established that the minerals have to reach directly to the affected cell. He decided to apply minerals diluted and potentiated (in D potency) in a homeopathic
